who are you?

My name is Arianne, and everything you see is designed, sewn, screen-printed, torn apart, and safety-pinned back together by me in my home studio in the south of England. I create a wide range of clothing and accessories, from reworked garments to cut-and-sew pieces made from secondhand fabrics. Recently, I added a collection of hand printed canvas patches, allowing customers to DIY their own dirtbag designs.

After a difficult period, including being sectioned in a psychiatric hospital at 25, sewing became the hobby that helped me heal. What started as a way to pass the time evolved into my full-time job, allowing me to turn my passion into a profession. Living with autism and experiencing panic attacks means traditional employment isn’t feasible, but running my own business gives me the flexibility I need. I’m grateful to have built a creative, empathetic community that supports me on this journey.

how are your handmade items made?

Ethics for Handmade Items

I specialise in customising, reworking, and sewing all of my handmade items. As part of my commitment to eco-friendliness, here are the steps I currently take:

Screen Printing:

  • I exclusively use second-hand screens or repurpose old photo frames to create all my screens.

  • I print using water-based vegan inks.

  • Every screen print is personally made by me, and I ensure ethical treatment throughout the process.

Sublimation Printing:

  • I have acquired all the equipment I use for sublimation printing second hand.

  • I prioritise using organic cotton and post-consumer recycled polyester fabric for printing.

Customisation:

  • All the fabric I use for customisation is made from organic or post-consumer recycled materials.

  • I personally sew every item and uphold ethical practices in my work.

  • I source high-quality hardware locally.

Shipping:

  • I ship my products using recyclable cardboard boxes.

  • Each order includes a free print and a thank-you card, both made from recycled paper and also recyclable.

Handmade Item Sourcing:

Method 1: Second-hand

  • I personally source and carefully select high-quality, durable fabrics from second-hand materials.

Method 2: Organic Cotton Hoodies

  • Black hoodies, which are harder to find in large quantities second hand, are made from ethically manufactured organic cotton and are vegan-friendly.

Method 3: From Scratch

  • For some items, I sew them entirely from scratch using custom-designed fabric.

  • The fabric used is printed on organic materials using eco-friendly pigment inks and is produced locally within an ethically-run factory.

By implementing these practices, I aim to prioritise sustainability, ethical production, and environmental responsibility in every aspect of my handmade items.

Ethical Practices for Made-to-Order T-Shirts

When it comes to crafting made-to-order items, I am dedicated to upholding ethical values, where possible using organic and vegan-approved fabrics that are manufactured responsibly or often hand printed by myself at home.
